Once weekly the John Graham Shelter hosts a free health clinic as an extension of Open Door Clinic, an organization dedicated to providing free health care access to area uninsured and underinsured individuals. This is a great resource for our residents, as well as members of the Vergennes and greater Addison County community. Often people will come to the shelter having been unable to get medical attention for long periods of time, and suffering as a result. In these cases, the medical attention provided by the Open Door Clinic dramatically improves the daily quality of life of our clients. The benefits of such a change, in terms of our mission of helping our clients move themselves to their “next step,” whatever that may be, can not be over-stated. The clinic is based on Exchange Street in Middlebury and offers services, by appointment only every Tuesday and Thursday night, two Saturdays per month and week days during the day. The services available include: - Treatment for illness or injury The clinic receives support from the United Way of Addison County, local individuals and small foundations, the State of Vermont, and Porter Medical Center in Middlebury. If you are interested in volunteering your time and abilities to the Open Door Clinic, please call 802-388-0137. |
